Step 1: An Adventure Park Hidden in Plain Sight

Jim, co-owner of Coral Crater Adventure Park in Oahu, had a thrilling business – a 35-acre adventure park with ziplines, ATV tours, an aerial challenge course, and more. The park offered exactly the kind of exciting experiences that tourists and locals search for when they’re looking for things to do in Hawaiʻi.

But in late 2024, Coral Crater was facing a big problem: online, they were virtually hidden. Their website existed, but it wasn’t showing up prominently on Google for many of those tourist-attracting searches.

Clearly, they had this fantastic park, but so many potential visitors just weren’t finding it on Google. He was concerned that competitors’ attractions were getting all the online attention while Coral Crater remained a local secret.

"We know we need more online visibility, fast. I'm confident our park will wow anyone who finds us – we just need to get in front of them." - Jim

When Jim met with us in December 2024, he was determined to change that. He suspected that improving his Google presence could unlock a new level of growth for the business. At that time, their Google Search Console showed about 15.7K total clicks over the four months between April and July of 2024 – not trivial, but largely driven by people already searching for “Coral Crater” by name. The real opportunity lay in capturing those who didn’t yet know about Coral Crater: people searching generically for adventures and activities in Hawaii.

Jim’s goal was clear: get Coral Crater in front of those searchers and convert them into customers. Emotionally, he felt a mix of excitement and urgency. Summer 2025 was on the horizon (a prime time for tourism), and he didn’t want to miss out on another season’s worth of potential bookings. “We know we need more online visibility, fast,” Jim told me. “I’m confident our park will wow anyone who finds us – we just need to get in front of them.”

I Want These Results for My Business

Discover how our SEO strategy can boost your business growth and deliver lasting results.

The Starting Point:

At the end of 2024, Coral Crater’s online presence was underperforming. The site had some content about their tours, but no active SEO strategy. They weren’t ranking for many non-branded keywords (for example, Google queries like “zipline in Honolulu” or “Oahu ATV tours” had low visibility). In fact, most of Coral Crater’s Google traffic was coming from people who already knew the name “Coral Crater” (existing awareness) rather than new searchers discovering it. Jim had not invested in any link building or serious SEO before, so while the website was professionally designed, it lacked the authority and prominence that come from a sustained SEO effort. Coral Crater was, essentially, Hawaiʻi’s best-kept secret: an adventure park hidden from a huge segment of its potential audience online.

Step 2: Charting a Course to the Top of Google (The Game Plan)

In our kickoff meeting, we discussed what success would look like for Coral Crater. Jim’s dream was to see a steady stream of online bookings from both tourists planning their Hawaii trips and locals looking for weekend fun. We envisioned Coral Crater appearing at the top of search results whenever someone Googled things like “best zipline in Oahu” or “family activities Honolulu.” In short, we wanted Coral Crater to dominate the search results for Hawaii adventure queries.

To make that happen, we crafted a blueprint focusing on two core strategies: (1) Target the right keywords, and (2) Build powerful backlinks to elevate the site’s authority. Here’s how we broke it down:

Hawaii-Focused Keyword Targeting:

We researched the exact phrases potential customers were using. Unsurprisingly, thousands of people each month search for terms like “ziplining in Honolulu,” “Oahu ATV tours,” “things to do in Oahu,” or “kid-friendly activities Oahu.” Many of these terms had decent search volume, but Coral Crater wasn’t ranking near the top for most of them at the time. We prioritized a list of high-intent keywords that indicated someone was ready to book an adventure in Hawaii, focusing on those including locations (“Oahu”, “Honolulu”, “Waikiki”, etc.) for maximum relevance.

High-Powered Link Building:

Since it would take some time to re-engineer the content on Coral Crater’s site, the fastest way to begin boosting rankings immediately was off-site SEO – earning authoritative backlinks. We planned a monthly link-building campaign to secure links from reputable websites in the travel, tourism, and local Hawaii niches. Each quality backlink would act like a “vote of confidence” from the internet, signaling to Google that Coral Crater’s site is trustworthy and relevant for adventure-related searches. We specifically aimed for links on websites with high domain authority and real traffic (for example, travel blogs, adventure tourism news sites, Hawaiian business directories, etc.).

Quality Over Quantity Strategy

Our strategy was quality over quantity – a few high-authority links would move the needle far more than dozens of low-end links. Jim was on board with the plan. In fact, as we outlined the process, he was fascinated: “So you won’t even change my website at first? Just getting these links will help that much?” he asked. We explained that for an established site like his, high-powered links of the variety we had in mind would indeed produce quick wins – they’d turbocharge Google’s trust in the site, leading to higher rankings for the terms we targeted. I made sure Jim understood that SEO isn’t an overnight magic trick; it’s a steady climb. But I also gave him reason to be optimistic: our experience has shown that when we secure strong backlinks for a client, we often start seeing ranking improvements within weeks. Jim’s competitive side lit up – he was eager to start climbing those search results and surpass the other adventure operators in the area. We set a start date of late December and got to work.

Step 2

From Keyword Research to More Customers

The straight-line plan: target intent, earn trust, rise in results, convert demand.

The Strategy — At a Glance

Keyword Research
Build a focused list of high-intent queries; align with on-SERP intent.
High-Authority Link Building
Outreach to relevant, reputable domains; prioritize quality and relevance.
Improved Rankings
Authority signals lift trust; positions climb across target queries.
More Traffic
Higher visibility + stronger snippets drive CTR growth.
More Customers
Increased qualified visits convert to bookings and revenue.
Quality > Quantity: Links should be relevant, reputable, and human-visible. Intent Alignment: Pages and snippets should match searcher goals.
  • Target high-intent searches (e.g., location- and activity-based queries).
  • Earn quality, relevant links from reputable sites (quality > quantity).
  • Rankings improve → CTR rises → traffic grows → bookings increase.

Key Takeaway:

Even if you have a beautiful website, you won’t reach new customers if you’re “invisible” on Google. Start by pinpointing what your ideal customers are searching for (in Jim’s case, “[activity] in [Hawaii location]”), and make that your SEO target. Then, consider your site’s authority – if competitors outrank you, it’s often because Google trusts them more. High-quality backlinks are the fastest way to earn that trust and rise in the rankings.

Step 3: Executing the Blueprint – High-Octane Link Building in Action

With our plan in place, we hit the ground running at the start of 2025. Our team’s first mission: acquire a few top-tier backlinks for Coral Crater as quickly as possible. In SEO, backlinks from authoritative sites are like rocket fuel, and we wanted to inject that fuel early to start the momentum. Here’s how we rolled out the campaign step by step:

Parabolic Growth Pattern

Growth indicates compounding trust signals from high-authority, relevant placements.

Step 1. Initial Link Wins – Securing the Foundation

By December 31, 2024, we had already secured Coral Crater’s first two high-powered backlinks.

These weren’t just any links – they came from well-regarded websites (one was a prominent business news site that loved our concept for an article about planning the perfect vacation, and included Coral Crater with a link; another was a popular online travel site that quickly approved the article we wrote for them about the best things to do in Honolulu with children, of course highlighting and linking to Coral Crater).

Seeing those go live was exciting for Jim and us. It’s not every day you get a mention on a site that thousands of adventure-seekers read. We knew Google’s crawlers would soon take notice.

Key Takeaway:

High-quality backlinks are the fastest way to earn Google's trust. Even two strategic links from authoritative travel sites can begin to move the needle on rankings within weeks.

Step 2. Consistent Monthly Link Outreach

Through January, February, and March, we continued our outreach and link acquisition.

We targeted a mix of travel bloggers, niche adventure tourism sites, family travel guides, and local business directories. We even got Coral Crater listed in a “Hawaiian Must-Do Activities” roundup that had very strong domain authority.

By the end of March 2025, Coral Crater’s backlink profile had grown substantially, with multiple new referring domains in the DR (Domain Rating) 50+ range. (In non-SEO speak: a bunch of very reputable websites were now vouching for Coral Crater by linking to it.)

Key Takeaway:

Effective SEO requires consistent effort. By steadily earning a few high-quality backlinks each month, you build momentum with Google. Each of these links was highly relevant to Coral Crater's audience - no gimmicks or black-hat tricks, just solid content and relationship-building.

Step 3. Avoiding the Junk:

It’s worth noting what we didn’t do: we never pursued spammy links or automated directories.

Every link was earned through genuine outreach or partnerships. For example, we wrote a guest article about “Adventure Travel Tips in Oahu” for a well-known travel site, which naturally included a link to Coral Crater.

We also connected with a military family blog (since Coral Crater offers military discounts), which featured Coral Crater in an article about family-friendly activities near Honolulu. Each of these links was highly relevant to Coral Crater’s audience. No gimmicks or black-hat tricks – just solid content and relationship-building.

Key Takeaway:

SEO success requires patience and consistent monitoring. By tracking our progress and staying committed to the strategy, we could see the rankings improve week by week. This steady validation kept everyone motivated to continue the campaign.

Key Takeaway:

Effective SEO is not a “set and forget” deal – it requires consistent effort. By steadily earning a few high-quality backlinks each month, you build momentum with Google. It’s like compounding interest – the impact grows over time. And always prioritize relevance and quality: one link from a respected, relevant site beats 100 links from random or low-quality sites.

Step 4. Patience and Monitoring

After those first links went live, we watched Google Search Console like hawks. We didn’t expect instant miracles (SEO takes a little time to kick in), but we started seeing the first positive signs within a few weeks. Impressions for our targeted keywords began to climb, and then clicks followed.

By the start of spring 2025, Coral Crater’s site was visibly gaining traction on Google. We kept Jim in the loop with monthly reports, showing him how certain keywords were moving up in rankings. “It’s happening,” I remember telling him in February, “Your site is climbing for those search terms we talked about.”

This gradual validation motivated us to keep pushing – and push we did, securing even more quality backlinks through April and May.

Step 4: The Results – From Plateau to Breakthrough

Fast forward to summer 2025 – just a few months into our SEO campaign – and the transformation was dramatic. Coral Crater went from a modest online presence to becoming one of the top-ranked adventure providers in Hawaii on Google. Let’s break down the results that our link building (and overall strategy) achieved in four short months (comparing April–July 2025 to the same period in 2024):

Dominate Your Market Like Coral Crater

We'll build a custom digital marketing plan to help your business achieve similar industry leadership

36% More Organic Traffic: As mentioned earlier, Coral Crater’s Google clicks jumped from about 15.7K to 21.4K in that four-month span. That’s thousands more website visitors looking for adventures – and by extension, thousands more potential customers.

Higher Visibility on Key Searches: Remember those high-intent keywords we targeted? Many of them are now dominated by Coral Crater. For example, Coral Crater’s site now ranks #1 on Google for “atv waikiki”, a term that previously had them locked in position five with 71.7% less traffic. They also broke into the coveted top spots for dozens of other queries: “zipline tour oahu” is now in the top 3, “ziplining in oahu” moved up six positions into position 2 (with a 290.9% increase in clicks, from 22 to 86, year-over-year), and “honolulu zipline” leapt onto page 1 as well (now around 5th–6th position). In practical terms, when people search for popular adventure activities in Oahu – ziplines, ATVs, etc., Coral Crater now shows up prominently, often above larger competitors.

Better Quality Traffic (Not Just More): One interesting outcome was the big increase in click-through rate (CTR) to 5.3%. This tells us that not only are Coral Crater’s rankings higher, but their search listings are attracting more clicks per impression. Likely, this is because the results Google shows for Coral Crater are now more frequently in front of the right people. We suspect Google started aligning the site with more relevant searches (and perhaps showing rich snippets at times). For instance, while total raw impressions dropped somewhat, it’s actually a positive sign – it means fewer people saw Coral Crater on irrelevant searches, and more saw (and clicked) them on highly relevant searches. The traffic coming in 2025 had a higher conversion likelihood because those visitors were actively looking for what Coral Crater offers. The increased clicks in Google Search Console confirmed this. It’s not just about more traffic, it’s about the right traffic. Coral Crater is getting more inquiries from people ready to book, not just casual website browsers.

Local and Mobile Domination: A huge chunk of Coral Crater’s audience is tourists on mobile devices (imagine visitors in Waikiki Googling “things to do near me”). Thanks to our efforts, Coral Crater became much more visible in those scenarios. Mobile clicks increased sharply (from ~10.9K to ~15.3K on mobile searches). And their Google Business Profile (the local listing) also gained visibility as their website’s authority grew. Now, when someone in Honolulu searches “ziplining near me” on their phone, Coral Crater often pops up with stellar reviews and high rankings, making it a no-brainer to click.

Trust and Authority Built: By mid-2025, Coral Crater’s website had accumulated a robust backlink profile. This acts as a defensive moat around their SEO presence. Competitors can’t easily outrank them now without matching the quality of Coral Crater’s links. In the SEO world, Coral Crater’s domain has gained serious authority. This means our results are durable, not a flash in the pan. With continued SEO maintenance (we’re still building links each month), Coral Crater is poised to hold onto their top positions and even improve further.

And here's perhaps the best part: this growth happened before we even implemented on-site content improvements. All the gains so far came from boosting the site's off-site signals. We have a slate of on-page enhancements (like completely new pages devoted to some of Coral Crater's most important niches, additional SEO-optimized content for some existing pages, long-form blog posts targeting high-value longtail keywords, better keyword-optimized tour descriptions, an FAQ section for search snippets, etc.) scheduled to roll out next. Once those go live, we expect Coral Crater's traffic to climb substantially higher for a whole slew of keywords that don't even appear on the site today. In other words, we're just getting started!

It's important to emphasize: these results weren't magic or luck. They were the product of a clear, well-executed strategy. Coral Crater's success confirms what we firmly believe: if you systematically execute a quality-over-quantity link building approach, you can dramatically change a business's online visibility in just a few months. Seeing Jim's business go from semi-hidden to front-and-center in the online space of Hawaiian adventures has been incredibly rewarding.

Now, the question is: Do you want to be our next success story?

Reading about Coral Crater's journey, you might be thinking, "This sounds incredible, but can I really do all that on my own?" It's normal to feel a bit overwhelmed – running your business is a full-time job, and implementing all these steps on top of that is a major challenge. That's exactly why we're here to help. Dominating Google’s Rankings

The results of this SEO campaign have been nothing short of game-changing for Coral Crater Adventure Park. As of July 31, 2025, Google Search Console metrics show that Coral Crater’s website now ranks at or near the top for an enormous array of relevant searches:

497

different non-branded keywords for which Coral Crater appears as the #1 organic result on Google (i.e., the very first result on the page).

750

different non-branded keywords for which Coral Crater’s site ranks on Google’s first page (within the top 10 results).

Enhanced Search Visibility

These figures mean that hundreds of people searching for general adventure-related queries (without typing “Coral Crater” specifically) find Coral Crater’s website before any other organic result. Remember, non-branded search terms – queries like “zipline Oahu” or “Hawaii adventure park” that don’t include the company’s name – typically drive the bulk of a site’s organic traffic. In other words, showing up for these generic terms is critical for attracting new visitors who haven’t heard of Coral Crater yet. By capturing 750 first-page rankings (including nearly 500 #1 positions), Coral Crater has gained a tremendous advantage in reaching those potential customers.

#1 Dominant Search Ranking

Securing the #1 spot is especially valuable. Studies show that the top organic result gets significantly more clicks than any other position. The #1 result is about 10 times more likely to be clicked than the #10 spot on page one. That means the traffic from that keyword surged each time RYK helped Coral Crater move from a lower first-page position up to #1. Simply put, ranking #1 for hundreds of high-interest search terms puts Coral Crater in an authoritative position where searchers are most likely to click through to their site.

Explosive Growth in Keyword Rankings
(Dec 2024 – Jul 2025)

RYK tracked Coral Crater’s keyword rankings over time using AHREFS to quantify the improvement in SEO. This leading SEO analytics platform provides detailed data on search rankings, keyword traffic, and competition. It can’t see as many keywords as Google Search Console reveals, but for those keywords it can see, it shows far more data and observations. The progress of the site’s search presence between late 2024 and mid-2025 is striking. AHREFS’ data identified 413 different non-branded keywords that Coral Crater’s website either climbed significantly higher for or started ranking for anew between December 23, 2024, and July 31, 2025. In late 2024, Coral Crater wasn’t in the top 100 Google results for many of these terms (or was buried deep down); by mid-2025, those same terms were ranking on page one, page two, or otherwise much higher than before. This demonstrates a broad-based improvement in visibility across the topics that matter most to Coral Crater’s business.

Notably, eight of these keywords achieved the coveted #1 Google position during that period, despite not holding the top spot at the end of 2024. For example, searches such as “adventure park hawaii”, “Oahu adventure park”, “ropes course oahu”, and “ATV in Waikiki” were all ranking below #1 (or not at all) in late 2024 – but by July 2025, Coral Crater is the #1 organic result for each of those queries. (In the AHREFS screenshot provided on this page, you can see a sample of these keywords that moved into the #1 position as of July 31, 2025, whereas none were #1 on December 23, 2024.) This indicates that Coral Crater has become the go-to result on Google for a wide array of adventure-related searches in Oahu. Competitors who used to outrank Coral Crater for these terms have now been leapfrogged, thanks to RYK’s SEO efforts.

Equally important is the breadth of Coral Crater’s new search visibility. Those 413 improving keywords span multiple facets of Coral Crater’s offerings – from various ziplining queries, ATV tour searches, and ropes course and adventure park-related terms. Coral Crater is capturing interest from every angle of their offer by dominating all these niches (zipline adventures, ATV/off-road experiences, climbing and ropes challenges, etc.). If someone is searching for an outdoor adventure or thrill in Oahu, chances are Coral Crater will now appear prominently in their search results.

Traffic Surge and Business Impact

Rankings are a means to an end: increased traffic and bookings. The spike in Coral Crater’s search rankings has translated into a surge in organic traffic. Many keywords that moved up in position are high-volume, high-intent queries, which means they can deliver a significant number of visitors actively looking for experiences that Coral Crater offers.

For instance, consider the keyword “zipline Oahu.” In December 2024, Coral Crater’s website showed up around the 8th position on Google for that term, near the bottom of page one, capturing only a modest share of searchers. By July 2025, Coral Crater had risen to about the 5th position for “zipline Oahu,” putting it higher on page one. AHREFS’ tools estimate that this climb more than tripled the monthly traffic Coral Crater receives from that query, from roughly 60 visits a month in late 2024 to nearly 200 visits a month by mid-2025. And that’s just one keyword’s impact. Other terms like “Oahu zipline”, “ziplining in Oahu”, and “Oahu ATV tours” also saw significant ranking jumps (e.g., moving from mid-first-page to top-five positions), and each of those now drives dozens if not hundreds of new visitors to the site every month.

Aggregating across all 413 improved keywords, the growth is impressive. These keywords are now bringing in about double the monthly organic traffic that they did before – a testament to how effective RYK’s SEO strategy has been in capturing interest. Every one of those new visitors is a potential customer who might book a zipline tour or ATV adventure.

Why This Matters and What Sets RYK Apart

This success story illustrates how strategic SEO can revolutionize a business’s online visibility. By partnering with Rule Your Kingdom, Coral Crater Adventure Park went from being just another result in the mix to dominating the search landscape for their industry in their locale. They’ve effectively become synonymous with adventure activities on Oahu in the eyes of search engines – and by extension, consumers. In the ultra-competitive tourism sector, that kind of prominence is invaluable. It means more organic traffic, direct bookings (instead of relying on third-party brokers or ads), and reduced need for expensive advertising to stay visible.

It’s worth emphasizing that all these gains were made with non-branded keywords. These are visitors who likely had never heard of Coral Crater before; now they’re discovering the park because it appears front-and-center when they search for an experience (“best zipline in Oahu,” “ATV tour Waikiki,” etc.). Capturing non-branded searchers is key to expanding a business’s reach, and Coral Crater’s ability to do so is a strong indicator of growth in brand-new customer acquisition. (Industry data backs this up – non-branded searches generally account for 80–90% of a website’s organic visitor pool, so excelling here means tapping the largest segment of searchers.)
